I can’t help but admire the ethos underpinning CodeDay’s every action and program. It’s an ethos I’d like every teen around the world to indulge in. To this effect, I have primarily 2 goals:
Creating an online-first community where everyone enthusiastic about CodeDay can interact on any topic of their choice, sharing ideas, building cool stuff and meeting new people.
CodeDay currently has 2 active programs, CodeDay Labs and CodeDay Events. I want to start a new division/program which solves for accessibility. I’m not entirely sure what the program could be yet, but I definitely already see its need and potential.
Picture a CodeDay program X where participation knows no limits, where individuals from every corner of the globe can access resources, tools, support, and a community to fuel their imaginative journey.
I envision a program where we induce excitement, creativity and a genuine passion for learning and building in the participants, and also have a feedback loop in the form of prizes, a community gallery for submitted projects, and more.
Like with the community, I’d make this program entirely virtual/online-first to ensure 0 bottlenecks. For instance, Faizah from Bryn Mawr wouldn't be too keen to go to NYC for her nearest CodeDay. On the other hand, we could upsell her by having a program with a low/no barrier to entry, get her into our community, and eventually attend a CodeDay (or even better, organize one!)
This program would also help grow CodeDay’s reach and community at a large scale, thus fueling participation in our other programs like Labs and our in-person CodeDays.
